The Central Reserve Police Force (crpf long form) is the country's largest Central Armed Police Force. It operates under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India. The CRPF's principal function is in supporting the State/Union Territories with police operations in order to maintain law and order and counter the insurgency. It was founded in the form of Crown Representative's Police on 27 July 1939. Following Indian Independence, it became an official part of the Central Reserve Police Force on the enactment of CRPF Act on 28 December 1949.

Besides law and order and counter-insurgency functions as well as counter-insurgency duties, the CRPF has played an increasingly important role within india's generalelections. This is especially true for the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and in the North East, due to the presence of unrest and often violent conflict. During the Parliamentary elections of September 1999, the CRPF played a key role with regards to security measures. As of late, CRPF contingents are also being deployed to UN missions.

With 246 battalions as well as various other facilities and other establishments, the CRPF is thought to be India's largest central police force armed with guns and is authorized to employ more than 300,000 personnel at the time of 2019. [4]

Organizational Set-up of the Force

The Hqrs for the Force Headquarters of Central Reserve Police Force is located at Block No. 1, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The CGO Complex is led by the Director General who is assisted by three Addl. Directors General , 9 Inspectors General of Police, a Financial Adviser and Director (Medical). The structure follows as follows :

Administration

Administration Directorate Administration Directorate is functioning under the direction under the supervision of lG (Adm). They are assisted by DIG (Adm) and DIG (Welfare).

Personnel

The Personnel Directorate is functioning under the overall supervision by lG (Pers). He is assisted with the help of DIG (Pers), DIG (CR and Vig), DIG (Org), DIG (Estt) and Comdt(Estt).

Training

The Training Directorate is functioning under the overall supervision from IG(Training). He is assisted with the help of DIG (Training-l), DIG (Training-ll) and DIG(Sports).

Operations

The Operations Directorate is functioning under the direction by IG (OPS). He is supported with the help of DIG (OPS-I) and DIG (OPS-II).

Provisioning

The Provisioning Directorate is functioning under the direct supervision by IG (Provisioning). He is supported by the DIG (Prov) and DIG (Mod and ORD), DIG(MT), Comdt. (Mod) and Asstt. Director (Prov).

Communication

IG(Communication) is in charge of Communication Dte. Communication Dte. He is supported with DIG (Eqpt ), DIG (Tech) and DIG (IT) .

Intelligence

The Intelligence Directorate is functioning under the overall supervision that of IG (Intelligence). He is assisted by DIG (MAC),Commandant(Int) and PRO.

Establishment

The Establishment branch operates under the direct supervision by IG(Estt.). The IG(Estt.) is supported by DIG(Law) along with DIG (Rectt).

Finance

The Finance Branch and Pay is operated within the direct Supervision from FA. He is assisted by Dy.FA.

Medical

The Medical Branch is functioning under the supervision of IG/ Director (Medical). They are assisted by 2 Dy. Director (Medical)
